It was that time of year again - Dismal Hill to Old Ing. A good turnout, Sophie, Ed, Tom, Richard (new), Slim and Chris met on a reasonably warm but over cast evening and headed down the original Dismal entrance.
The initial low bedding soon comes to a climb down of about 6m. At the bottom of this head right along the narrow rift and then go left, back on yourself, in the parallel rift and drop down into a little pit at the bottom of which is an unpromising looking letter box. This enters a wide but very low bedding which ends in the roof a couple of metres above the streamway after about 30m. Downstream is a reasonable amount of easy going passage which gets damper towards the sump at the end.
Returning back upstream leads to traverses (rope in place) across a couple of deeper sections and up into an excavated passage. This opens into another section of traversing above a narrow canal which ends at some foot-pegs on the wall with a letter box above. A short crawl in the roof opens out into a waterfall chamber. Climb up the waterfall and follow the passage which ends at a sump. A short distance before the sump a climb up on the left leads to Mick's end, a blasted body sized (or slightly less than body sized for some) tube. This ends in the roof of Old Ing, close to the sump.
Everyone made it through Mick's end so we exited via Old Ing and gave Richard a go at SRT down the new Dismal Hill entrance. Cracking little trip!
